Project Watan: No refuge or salvation except through Lebanon and the finality of the nation

Project Watan’s Executive Board held its weekly meeting, chaired by MP Neemat Frem, with all members present, to discuss the dangerous circumstances Lebanon is currently facing. After deliberating on the latest developments, the Board issued the following statement:

  1. Project Watan addressed the significant and dramatic developments unfolding in Lebanon and the region. The accelerated deterioration toward a broader war, which could involve several countries and axes, is looming on the horizon, potentially leading to something akin to a world war. The participants agreed that the situation after this war will not be the same as before; the war in southern Lebanon could last for months unless we return to the nation’s borders and halt the bloodshed as quickly as possible. They also emphasized the role of the Lebanese army, the foremost and ultimate protector of the nation’s and citizens’ security, in safeguarding civil peace in this delicate situation.
  2. Project Watan commends the solidarity shown across all regions by the Lebanese people, who demonstrated the highest levels of unity and support in confronting the burdens of war and its devastating effects. The participants were deeply moved by the sight of Lebanese families opening their homes to one another. However, they called on those who fled their homes due to the bombing and violence to respect the customs, traditions, comfort, and security of the host communities.
  3. The Executive Board strongly condemns the Israeli attacks on both people and property, urging the international community and Lebanese parties -- in order to stop the bloodshed and protect innocent lives – to make immediate and concerted efforts to find a swift solution that respects Lebanon’s borders, sovereignty, and existence, to stop the war, and focus on the Lebanese cause as a priority, independent of all other conflicts and arenas.

The participants also stressed that preventing the total loss of our homeland begins with the election of a president for the republic, followed by the formation of a government to address the dangerous situation, halt the ongoing disorder, and urgently work toward rebuilding the state and its institutions. There is no refuge for any citizen except Lebanon, and no salvation for anyone except through the finality of the nation.
