Parliamentary Elections at the Core of the Meeting Between Project Watan and the Maronite League

The Chairman of Project Watan’s Executive Board, MP Neemat Frem, received a delegation from the Maronite League headed by Mr. Maroun Helou at the project’s headquarters, in the presence of board members.

The electoral file topped the agenda of the meeting, as Frem stressed that holding elections under the current law would constitute a “political sin.” He considered that the issue of expatriate voting has turned into a “scandal” in light of the absence of a clear, decisive mechanism enabling them to exercise their constitutional right, emphasizing the need to respect constitutional deadlines and complete the required procedures.

For his part, Helou explained that the visit comes within the framework of the League’s meetings with officials, in support of every effort aimed at building a state of institutions and modernizing the system. He commended the regularity of Project Watan’s work and its reform-oriented agenda.

The meeting also included a joint review of the League’s initiatives and the files it is pursuing, as well as the structural issues addressed by Project Watan, its objectives, and the package of draft laws it has submitted.

In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued consultation and coordination on the various national issues at hand, approaching them with wisdom and responsibility, in pursuit of a productive and pioneering state of institutions capable of delivering outstanding services.
