Frem and Khazen Affirm Political and National Convergence

The Chairman of Project Watan’s Executive Board, MP Neemat Frem, along with board members, received MP Farid Khazen at the project’s headquarters, where the latter was presented with a documented overview of the project’s objectives and key pillars within the framework of rebuilding the state.

In his remarks, Khazen stressed a set of national constants that he shares with Project Watan, affirming that this path constitutes a shared future political project.

He pointed to the depth of the political and national relationship between the two sides, saying: “What unites us is, first, our belief in Lebanon as a final homeland for all its citizens – sovereign, free, and independent – and second, the establishment of a strong state with its constitutional institutions, army, effective administrations, exclusive authority over weapons, and a free economy. This is in addition to the best possible ties with Arab countries and openness to the international community.” He also warned against the dangers of political and economic isolation.

Khazen added that the Constitution must remain the sole reference for managing political life, as it guarantees the formula of coexistence between Christians and Muslims and protects both public and private freedoms.

He also highlighted the historic role of the Maronite Church as a fundamental national reference and guarantor in the establishment and continuity of Greater Lebanon, beyond its spiritual and sectarian role.

In turn, MP Neemat Frem welcomed MP Khazen, saying that Project Watan represents a comprehensive intellectual and national path with clear objectives and a steady course. He also expressed pride in what has been achieved in recent years and in the national partnerships that will accompany the project in the next phase.

Frem explained that Project Watan started with a fundamental question: What unites Lebanese people across sects? The answer, he said, lies in the shared goal of rebuilding a strong state with successful, productive, and leading institutions, as well as high-quality services.

He emphasized that Project Watan does not seek narrow gains, but rather aims to build a free and sovereign state that guarantees its citizens their basic rights, including protection and deterrence, a social safety net, public services, and advanced infrastructure.

The lawmaker then underscored the importance of sects in Lebanon within their historical and spiritual context, noting that the Constitution safeguards their rights, while state-building remains the unifying project for all Lebanese – away from politicizing sects or drawing them into political conflict.

The meeting concluded with an affirmation of political and national convergence between Khazen and Project Watan, and a shared commitment to move forward along this path, grounded in sovereign and constitutional principles aimed at protecting Lebanon and building its state.
